Funds that are announced are around SEK 500,000 per program, and projects of SEK 100,000–250,000 are usually applied for. The announced project funds will be announced as a one-off grant during the year 2027 and are conditional on SLU's board allocating funds for the purpose. However, parts of the funds may be used during the year 2028, if there are special reasons for that.
Aim of the call
The call aims to develop and broaden the perspectives of EMA at SLU, and to demonstrate and communicate its potential and use for the sustainable development of society. Therefore, we also welcome interdisciplinary as well as economic and social perspectives, besides natural science-oriented projects in the applications.
Focus of the call
The focus of this call is:
- projects that contribute to the follow-up of the Swedish environmental quality objectives and/or the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030
- projects that develop knowledge on measures and evaluation studies of measures, including those focusing on how EMA-data can be used in measure evaluation
- projects that catalogue or make EMA-data openly accessible, alternatively that make use of EMA-data to strengthen and develop the relevance of EMA for sustainable development in society
- method development within EMA
- more comprehensive communication efforts of EMA-data and results
Contribute to SLU's strategy
We encourage applications that contribute to SLU's strategy (SLU’s next steps towards sustainable development, and SLU and the data-driven present and future). In line with the strategy, we also welcome applications that are relevant to multiple programs or strengthen the interaction between programs. We specifically welcome applications that engage more than one program, department and faculty.
Societal and stakeholder needs
The projects that will be granted funding within SLU’s EMA should have strong links to societal and stakeholder needs for data, analyses and decision support, and could preferentially be undertaken in collaboration with stakeholders and result in future external assignments to SLU from management authorities.
Handling
The applications are handled by the EMA program coordinators and will be presented for discussion with the external reference groups of the relevant programs. Thereafter, the EMA board, the faculty board or the deans (dependent on the faculty) make the final decision on the distribution of funds.
Before submitting your application, please contact the coordinators of the targeted EMA program to get feedback on your ideas and application. This specifically concerns the proposed project’s relevance for a specific EMA-program, how the project benefits the development of EMA at SLU in general, and how the results of the project are disseminated and shared with relevant stakeholders.
Preliminary reporting of projects takes place during spring 2028 in SLU's reporting system. In addition to this reporting, the project ends by being popular science communicated (briefly state how in the communication plan in the application form). Scientific publication of the results is encouraged but should take place outside the project.
Apply
Contact the respective program coordinator to get feedback on your application.
The application is made in this form
Those who apply for funding state the program or programs for which the application is made (no more than 3 programs may be selected), but we reserve the right to redistribute the applications between the various programs after the end of the application period if necessary.
In the event of any technical problems with the form, contact Mikaela.Asplund@slu.se.
The last day to apply is 15 September 2026. Decisions are expected to be announced at the end of 2026. In the event of late or no delivery from the project, the faculty can withdraw funds.
