SLU will receive an additional SEK 2.5 million from the government to develop a range of short courses for professionals in the areas of battery, technology and green transition. A new application round is now open for those of you who are interested in developing a course.

The Öppet för klimatet initiative started last year and the following courses are currently under development:

  • Varför välja trä vid nästa byggprojekt? (Why choose wood for the next high rise building?)
  • Ciderproduktion – från råvara till produkt
  • Blå omställning för hållbara hav och vatten
  • Hästbete på naturmarker
  • Using drones in agriculture
  • Implementering av ett hållbart multifunktionellt våtmarkslandskap

One person who took the opportunity last year to apply for funding to develop a course is Dimitris Athanassiadis, a researcher at the Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology, who developed the course Varför välja trä vid nästa byggprojekt? (Why choose wood for the next high rise building?)

- This is one of the most fun things I've done, so if you're interested - take the chance and apply for funding! says Dimitris Athanassiadis.

The course Dimitris Athanassiadis has developed is aimed at, among other groups, architects who want more information about the origin of wood. He says that among architects, he saw many questions about wood construction and wood as a raw material.

- So the call to develop a short course for professionals came at a very good time for me. I saw that there was a need to offer training in an area where we at SLU have great expertise. The course is not about contruction methods, but provides scientific facts about forestry, forest management and biodiversity, says Dimitris Athanassiadis.

Available on the website Öppet för klimatet

The SLU courses will be launched on the Öppet för klimatet website as they are finalised. The courses of other participating universities will also be available there.

- The courses are offered as open online training, which is suitable for professionals as they have a flexible start and end date and are short, free of charge and do not require an admission process. The courses can be planned so that they can eventually be added as components of existing courses, or at a later stage become short credit-bearing courses or contract training, says Ida Kollberg, a researcher at the Department of Crop Production Ecology, who is coordinating the initiative on behalf of SLU.

How to proceed

Do you want to develop a short course? The call for application, together with the application form, will be distributed via the departmental directors of studies. The deadline for submitting applications is 28 Feb.

Facts:

Participating higher education institutions are:

  • Uppsala University
  • Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
  • Lund University
  • Umeå University
  • Linköping University
  • KTH Royal Institute of Technology
