The rollout of SLU’s new and modern network continues to move forward at a steady pace.

During the summer and autumn, the project has activated several locations:

  • Ulls Hus in Ultuna
  • Undervisningshuset in Ultuna
  • Väröbacka (relocation of premises)
  • EKC in Ultuna (wired network)

The activation in Undervisningshuset has so far been the project’s smoothest. This is mainly due to the fact that the department had a good knowledge of its connected devices and actively participated in testing critical units and systems, which greatly facilitated the project’s work.

Ongoing and upcoming activities:

During the remainder of the autumn, the project will focus on activating the network in:

  • Skinnskatteberg (weeks 33 – 34)
  • Umeå (weeks 49 – 50)

Network performance in our new network:

At the end of September, performance issues were detected in Ulls Hus. A thorough investigation showed that the cause was interference in the wireless network channels, as well as certain clients that are not managed by SLU’s IT department lacking the necessary updates.

After adjustments and optimization of the network, new measurements have shown improved performance. For users who experienced issues and use devices that are not managed by SLU’s IT department, the problems have been resolved by updating these devices – enabling them to connect to the faster and more stable WiFi network.

Going forward, the project will strengthen its follow-up process through continuous checks immediately after each activation. The goal is to identify and address any issues more quickly.

The project also encourages all users to register a ticket in Service Desk if you experience feedback from users, it is difficult for the project to detect problems and take appropriate action – thank you!

Ongoing preparations across the country:

In parallel with the activations several activities are underway to lay the groundwork for upcoming rollouts:

  • Relocation of access points and fiber adjustments in Umeå
  • Discussions with departments in Ultuna, Lönnstorp, Alnarp and Umeå regarding the need for wired networks
  • Planning of fiber improvements in Lanna, Röbäcksdalen, Grimsö, Skara, Siljansfors and Alnarp
  • Preparations for mounting access points in Mellangård and Röbäcksdalen

In summary, the project continues to progress steadily, and the development is clearly moving in the right direction. Each activation provides valuable lessons that make the coming rollouts even more efficient.
