SASi-SPi participated in a online conference on March 22 called Sustainable Food Systems Transformation in Bhutan. This conference explored the state of play of Bhutan food systems, to evidence the country’s work towards securing healthy and nutritious food for the people while meeting environmental commitments and generating revenues for the smallholders who produce and process food.
Rugged topography and climate-related risks make the achievement of food self-sufficiency in Bhutan very difficult. The food system indeed is dominated by small landholders with high production costs and limited market access, leading to large food imports. The conference showcased Bhutan's efforts to secure healthy and nutritious food while meeting environmental commitments and generating revenues for the smallholders who produce and process food.
