Become a work environment representative at SLU and make a difference at your workplace!

Published: 22 October 2020

In Sweden, you, as a work environment representative, have a unique position where your role is to monitor the work environment management at the workplace.

The Work Environment Act states that the employer and the employee should work together in the work environment management. Even if the employer has the utmost responsibility for the work environment, it is a stated requirement that the organised work environment management should be run together with the employees and their representatives. No one knows more about the work environment in the workplace than you and your colleagues do. The employees’ representative is the work environment representative or the safety representative, as it is also called.

The work environment representative has been guaranteed a number of powers. The representative has, among other things, the authorisation to:

  • receive training
  • be a part of actions which concern the relationships in the work environment
  • participate during the planning of new premises as well as changes in the premises

The unions report new work environment representatives to the employer and would like to ask you to find out if there is a work environment representative at your workplace. Talk to your colleagues, suggest a representative if you do not have one or sign up yourself as interested. It is an important and fun mission!
