Urban Transitions & Transformations Workshop – matchmaking at SLU in Alnarp

Published: 23 February 2019

At the end of January SLU organised a two-day workshop on the theme "Urban Transition and Transformation". Supported by seed funding from the research platform SLU Urban Futures and a network of practitioners via SLU’s Think Tank Movium, researchers and practitioners were gathered together with international researchers who were included in the STRN network's theme group on ‘Urban Transitions and Transformations’.

Contemporary theories on urban transition and transformation were presented as were overviews of the research field and experiences from practice. Four Swedish projects were presented and discussed: Mo-Bo by Anna Sundman from TIP Architects, Sharing Embassy by Katja Holst from Wingårdhs Architects, Brunnshög by Christian Wilke from the City of Lund and Sege Park by Johan Pitura from Kjellander Sjöberg Architects and  Oscar Pelin from the City of Malmö.

Two workshop sessions resulted in identified “transformation edges” and knowledge gaps in terms of space and materialization of policy, (urban) norms and intersectionality, the need for a safe space for experiments and collective learning. Continuing collaboration is expected through the STRN-network and The Think Tank Movium's partnership with practitioners.
