Swedish LifeWatch granted renewed funding

Published: 21 September 2017

Swedish LifeWatch has been awarded renewed funding from the Swedish Research Council to maintain and advance a Swedish e-infrastructure for biodiversity data.

The Swedish Research Council (SRC) has decided to award grants to Swedish research infrastructures of approximately 4 billion SEK. Swedish LifeWatch is one of the infrastructures that will be funded.

“We are happy for the renewed confidence from SRC and look forward to continue the important work to maintain and further develop a world leading national research infrastructure for biodiversity data, says Ulf Gärdenfors, managing director for Swedish LifeWatch. “We also congratulate the related project BioAtlas Sweden on their funding and look forward to a close collaboration.”

The new LifeWatch consortium behind the application comprises SLU, University of Gothenburg, Umeå University and SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute).

Facts:

In 2010, the Swedish Research Council (VR) commissioned the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) to lead the design of an infrastructure for biodiversity and ecosystem research. Swedish LifeWatch is now fully operational and offers access to over 70 000 000 species observations from 15 distributed national data bases, as well as tools for data visualisation and analysis.
