Webinar: Human Readable, “Self-Describing” Marine Data Files

Warmly welcome to a webinar arranged by the Swedish National Data Service (SND).

“Self-describing” data files must contain sufficient metadata to create a dataset on the ERDDAP server without manual intervention. NetCDF is the standard "self-describing" format for ocean data files, but our stakeholders also need support for a “text-based” format that can be edited using a text editor or spreadsheet.

In this webinar David Rayner will introduce the file format NCCSV - "NetCDF-Compatible ASCII CSV" - which we are proposing to recommend for sharing text-based marine data files.

Swedish National Data Service (SND)

Swedish National Data Service (SND) has a primary function to support the accessibility, preservation, and re-use of research data and related materials. SLU is one of the universities that form the consortium that runs SND, and employees at SLU can publish data in SND's national data catalogue.

Data Management Support (DMS)

SLU's participation in SND takes place through Data Management Support (DMS) at the SLU library. DMS supports researchers, students and environmental monitoring and assessment staff, with, among other things, handling, publishing, and archiving data.
