HR strategist and Home Guard soldier

On 16 April 2025, some SLU employees will be wearing military uniforms for “Uniform at Work Day,” which highlights the role of Home Guard volunteers in Sweden’s defence. Erika Bodenhjelm, an HR strategist at SLU, is one of them. Alongside her civilian job, she serves as a medic in the Home Guard – a role that demands both medical skills and readiness under pressure.

Driven by a desire to contribute to society, Erika joined the Home Guard in late 2021. She trains eight days a year and values the teamwork and challenges it brings. The Home Guard is evolving, with more women and younger people joining, especially since the war in Ukraine.

At SLU, Erika plays a key role in HR projects and leadership training. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her four children, her countryside cottage, and her motorcycles.

By wearing her uniform at work, Erika hopes to raise awareness of the Home Guard and inspire others to get involved.
