Recipients of SLU’s 2026 educational awards announced

Published: 26 May 2026

This year, SLU’s educational awards are being presented to two individual recipients. The recipients are Cecilia Kronqvist (Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare) and Jonas Bohlin (Department of Forest Resource Management).

SLU’s educational awards, each worth 25,000 Swedish kronor, are presented at the university’s doctoral award ceremony in October each year. One award is always for an individual (a lecturer, director of studies or equivalent), while the other may be either an individual award or a team award (a team of lecturers, a department or equivalent). Candidates may be nominated by students and lecturers.

Cecilia Kronqvist receives the educational award on the following grounds:

"With dedication, enthusiasm and expertise, Cecilia Kronqvist takes on the students of the Agriculture with a Specialisation in Animal Science. She is responsible for the first course on the programme and, right from the start, conveys a sense that she sees each student and that no question is too silly to be answered thoughtfully. Cecilia returns regularly as a teacher throughout the programme, delivering lessons that engagingly combine theory with practical exercises. Her ability to both see the students and create an inclusive atmosphere within the student group means that many students describe her as a safe haven to return to throughout their studies."

Jonas Bohlin receives the educational award on the following grounds:

"Jonas Bohlin is a highly dedicated and well-regarded teacher with a keen interest in the continuous development of teaching. Over the more than 20 years that Jonas has taught a variety of courses each year, he has consistently received praise in student evaluations. In addition to developing his own teaching, Jonas has also taken the initiative to improve teaching at the faculty in general. For example, he founded the Ljungberg Laboratory, which has given many students the opportunity to use modern hardware, such as various types of drones, in their work."

More on the process

For six weeks at the start of the year, students and staff can nominate candidates for the educational awards. The nominations are compiled and processed by the Unit of Educational Development at the SLU University Library. A panel comprising the Vice-Chancellor, the chairs of the faculty programme boards, and two student representatives from SLUSS then submits a recommendation to the Vice-Chancellor regarding the recipients of the awards.
