Gun Lidestav has been awarded the Brandl Prize for her contributions to research on gender issues in small-scale forestry. The prize is awarded by the International Union for Forest Research IUFRO.

Since 2008, the International Union for Forest Research (IUFRO) has awarded the Brandl Prize to people who have made significant contributions to small-scale forestry research. The prize is named after Professor Helmut Brandl, who founded the IUFRO small-scale forestry group.

Gun Lidestav co-founded a group within IUFRO for Gender and forestry in 2000 and has coordinated it ever since. She has also published scientific articles on the subject of gender, forest ownership and forestry. Gun received the award from the American forest researcher Brett Butler, who represented IUFRO and who was in Sweden when he was appointed honorary doctor at the Faculty of Forest Sciences.
