Important Seminar on the Nagoya Protocol

Published: 12 March 2025

It is crucial for researchers and heads of department to comply with the rules of the Nagoya Protocol. At a seminar on 19 March, SLU will present the internal legal support available.

For researchers and heads of department working with genetic resources and benefit-sharing, it is essential to understand the Nagoya Protocol and ensure compliance with its regulations. To facilitate this, SLU provides internal legal support, which will be clarified during the seminar on 19 March.

"Non-compliance with the Nagoya Protocol poses risks for research. For instance, a researcher may not be able to use data in publications, and funders may have regulations that could lead to project termination. The seminar will also provide updates on the latest developments regarding Digital Sequence Information (DSI) and the Marine Biodiversity Treaty in relation to access and benefit-sharing," says Alexander Kuzmicki, Chief Legal Officer at SLU.

The seminar will be held online in English on 19 March from 13:00 to 14:00.
