On Tuesday this week, a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda to the Nordics and University of Rwanda (UR) visited SLU. UR is one of the African universities which SLU has extensive collaboration with, as part of the new phase of Sida’s bilateral Research Partnership Training Programme Programme with UR 2019-2024. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss how to take the collaboration further.
HE Ambassador Dr. Diane Gashumba, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Nordics, led the Rwandan delegation consisting of Professor Alexandre Lyambabaje, the new Vice-Chancellor of UR, and additional staff involved within the bilateral programme. During their visit at SLU they met with SLU:s Vice-Chancellor Maria Knutson Wedel, Ylva Hillbur Pro Vice-Chancellor International relations, Sara Gräslund, Head of SLU Global and other representatives from SLU.
Staff and researchers from Umeå University, University of Borås and Uppsala University also attended the meeting. During the day researchers and library staff from all the universities, presented the progress of their respective subprogrammes and collaborations with UR and SLU.
SLU is involved in five different subprogrammes within Sida’s bilateral programme with UR and is a key partner for UR in their efforts to contribute to the Rwandan agricultural and rural transformation, but also supporting UR’s institutional capacities.
