Karin Eklöf and Foon Yin Lai have been awarded scholarships from the royal foundation “Stiftelsen Konung Carl XVI Gustafs 50-årsfond för vetenskap, teknik och miljö”.

Foon Yin Lai is a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment and has been awarded 100 000 SEK for a project investigating the risks associated with the recycling of nutrients from wastewater, with a focus on the dissemination of micropollutants and antibiotic resistant genes in the environment. The scholarship will be used for participation in a conference, and for cooperation with the University of Helsinki.

Karin Eklöf is a researcher at the department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment and has been awarded 85 000 SEK for a project about mercury in forest streams. The aim of the study is to establish which factors explain variations in the amount of mercury exported from different areas used for forestry, and to identify possible measures that can be taken to minimise mercury levels in forest streams in these areas. The scholarship will be used for field studies in the U.S. and Canada, and for a research trip to Penn State University, USA.
