I am a PhD student studying the effect of microclimate on saproxylic beetles and fungi

Research

Climate change will have severe effects on pest management and conservation of biodiversity and the forest ecosystem. These effects can be buffered to some extent by microclimatic conditions. Small-scaled climate effects may be important for forestry and nature conservation. However, it may be modified by forest management. The aim of my PhD is to better undersand the role of microclimate in forests for saproxylic beetles and fungi. To be able to evaluate forest management options, I will study how microclimate in forest varies over smaller and larger scales, and species’ responses, but so far little research has been done on that. In a broader sense, the objective is to obtain knowledge needed to adapt nature conservation and pest management to current and future climatic conditions.

Background

I have a Msc in Ecology with specialization on forest ecology from the University Wuerzburg. My master thesis was about the effect of aposematism on predation interaction.
