This page provides an overview of SLU’s target audiences and includes example personas to support your communication planning and audience understanding.

SLU’s priority target audiences

According to SLU’s communication policy, the following target audiences are prioritised:

  • Prospective students

  • Alumni

  • Professionals in industry and government authorities

  • Research funders

  • International partners and universities

Our main internal target audiences

  • Employees

    • Teachers and researchers

    • Doctoral students and PhD candidates

    • Technical and administrative staff (TA staff)

    • Managers and leaders

  • Students

    • Undergraduate students

    • Master’s students

    • Doctoral students (partly both students and employees)

  • Organisational units

    • Faculties and departments

    • University management and board

    • Administrative divisions (e.g. Communication, HR, Finance)

    • Centres, programmes and projects

Purpose of identifying target audiences

Defining internal target audiences makes it easier to:

  • Adapt the choice of communication channels (e.g. intranet, newsletters, staff meetings, Teams)

  • Ensure that communication is relevant and accessible

  • Distinguish between the information needs of students and employees

  • Support dialogue and engagement, not just one-way communication
