SLU’s strategy is an internal governing document that defines the overall direction of operations and provides guidance for planning and prioritisation across the entire university.
The previous strategy for the period 2021–2025 remains relevant in several respects. At the same time, changes in the external environment and developments within SLU’s areas of activity have made a review and clarification of priorities necessary. A central component of the updated strategy is therefore the external analysis, which forms the basis for the priorities and strategic choices SLU needs to make going forward.
– Since the previous strategy was adopted in 2020, much has changed. Climate change, geopolitical instability, changing conditions for academia, and rapid technological development affect both SLU and society at large. An updated strategy is therefore needed to provide us with a clear and shared direction for the coming five-year period, says SLU’s Vice-Chancellor, Maria Knutson Wedel.
Focus areas and principles set the direction
The way forward is based on two overarching principles and approaches—quality and resource efficiency—as well as three prioritised focus areas:
- SLU’s next steps for sustainable development
- SLU and the data-driven present and future
- One SLU – we at SLU
Together, these reflect SLU’s mission, rapid technological development, and the need for a strong, cohesive organisation.
The strategy is to be translated into concrete plans and activities
The new strategy serves as SLU’s common framework and will now be implemented in practice through operational plans within both academia and the shared administrative support. The strategy is therefore not a standalone document, but is to be integrated into the university’s regular governance, priorities, and decision-making.
An important ambition has been to make the strategy more focused and usable.
– We wanted to condense the strategy so that it becomes easier to understand and use. It should serve as support for management and leaders, but also as a starting point for reflection for every employee, says Maria Knutson Wedel.
