New consultants at Statistics@SLU

Published: 25 March 2024

Statistics@SLU has welcomed two new consultants during the last year, associate professor Reza Belaghi at the Department of Energy and Technology in Uppsala and Dr. Wilmer Prentius at the Department of Forest Resource Management in Umeå.

Before joining SLU Reza has worked at Uppsala University and at McMasters University in Canada. His interests are in machine learning and artificial intelligence predictive modelling. He has a strong background in a variety of regression methods, including GLM, factor analysis, survival analysis and shrinkage estimators. Reza also develops web applications using R shiny.

Wilmer defended his Ph.D. thesis in at SLU in 2023 and works with research focused on sampling methodology for environmental populations, when pre-existing information can and should be included in the sample selection process. Since he often works with very large datasets he has also a good knowledge about increasing computational speed using Rcpp and cpp11, which allows to create fast functions to use together with other general R functions and packages.
