Starting on Monday, 21 October, the election for new faculty boards will take place. Particularly noteworthy this year are the VH and NJ faculties' elections, where new deans and vice-deans will be elected. The respective nominating committees have put forward Nils Fall as dean for VH and Noél Holmgren for NJ.
The election is significant because the faculty boards make key decisions on research priorities, resource allocation to departments and subject areas, appointments to senior positions, and education quality assurance in the coming years.
It is the responsibility of the faculties' nominating committees to propose the composition of the new boards. Dan Bergström, chair of the nominating committee for the S Faculty, stresses the importance of voting.
“The number of votes each candidate receives determines who becomes a member or deputy. Moreover, it indicates the level of support the proposed dean and deputy dean have among staff before the vice-chancellor decides. If there are additional nominations, the election becomes even more crucial,” says Dan.
The election for the faculty board is essential for setting the direction for the coming years, including recruitment to senior positions and research priorities.
“We have worked intensively to put together a team of wise colleagues for the S Faculty’s board, whom we believe can contribute positively to the faculty's development over the next three years,” Dan adds.
To help voters make an informed choice, all faculties are organising digital hearings where candidates will present themselves. This is an opportunity to hear the nominees’ visions for the faculty's future and how they view their role on the council.
