A former PhD student at the Department of Molecular Sciences, Yan Xue, has received the Adolf Gogoll Prize in NMR Spectroscopy for her PhD thesis with the title “Studies of Hyaluronan and Related Structures by NMR Spectroscopy”.
The prize is awarded a student at doctoral or advanced level who has completed high-quality studies on molecules in solution using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The prize was handed out at a ceremony during the Holmquist symposium at Uppsala University and was in the form of a medal with a portrait of the late Professor Adolf Gogoll, who was also Yan’s teacher in NMR spectroscopy. Yan gave a presentation highlighting the work in her PhD thesis, which is an investigation of structural and dynamic properties of hyaluronan and hyaluronan hydrogels in aqueous solution. Hyaluronan is an important component of the extracellular matrix and studies on the structure and function of hyaluronan have been conducted since many years in Uppsala. Yan’s PhD work was supervised by Corine Sandström, SLU, Gustav Nestor, SLU, and Frida Wende, Galderma.
The PhD thesis is available here: Studies of Hyaluronan and Related Structures by NMR Spectroscopy (slu.se)
