Big IT infrastructure lift underway!

During the autumn of 2021, the headmaster made the decision to finance and implement a comprehensive modernization of SLU's IT infrastructure. This is being done through the coordination of various projects and preliminary studies under a unified program called the IT-Infralyftprogrammet (IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program).

Long-term strategy

A part of SLU's long-term strategy is to achieve a more digitized university. In order for SLU to fully leverage the opportunities of digitalization, both the IT infrastructure and IT security need to be upgraded. Therefore, the focus is on developing the infrastructure and system capacity at SLU, as well as ensuring the necessary competence and expertise to meet the opportunities and needs of digital transformation. This is accomplished through the IT Infrastructure Upgrade Program.

An extensive program

The program includes the development of networks, email, identity management, SharePoint, IT platforms, server infrastructure, research IT infrastructure, and IT security. One area of particular priority is IT security and a new network. Since the start of the program, several important components have been implemented. For instance, the email system has been upgraded, and a new network has been procured.

All projects within the program will impact the core operations, but to varying degrees. Therefore, it is important for the program to be implemented in close collaboration with the core operations and with consideration for the stakeholders affected by each project.
