Published: 29 March 2022

"EU Platform on Animal Welfare" is the European Commission's expert platform with the objective to enhance dialogue on animal welfare questions between authorities, companies, researchers and the surrounding society.

The work includes discussions on application of EU animal welfare legislation, voluntary animal welfare commitments from companies, how animal welfare can provide increased market value and this is in line with the ongoing and comprehensive revision of EU animal welfare legislation.

Linda Keeling is since the start in 2017 a member of the platform as an independent expert. Harry Blockhuis is a substitute member and also has a roll with observer status as director of the European Reference Centre on Animal Welfare for Ruminants and Equines. Now Rebecka Westin and Lotta Berg take a personal mandate in two subgroups.

“It is a good recognition of SLU to be be included in this context, where Gård & Djurhälsan and the Swedish Board of Agriculture are also represented from Sweden." says Lotta berg

Rebecka Westin is part of a group on animal welfare for pigs and Lotta in a group that handles animal welfare at the time of killing.
