The SLU Board today appointed Professor Pär Forslund deputy vice-chancellor for SLU. Pär has been a professor of ecology at SLU since 2012. He is also deputy dean at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences, responsible for education issues, as well as chair of the programme board for education in natural resources and agriculture.

“The recruitment group did extensive preparatory work to find one to three candidates that fulfilled the SLU requirements, and our consultative assembly interviewed the candidate proposed by the group. Based on this, the recruitment group then drafted a paper for the board, suggesting that Pär Forslund would be an excellent candidate for the post”, says Rolf Brennerfelt, chair of the SLU Board.

“Pär has extensive experience from SLU’s biggest faculty. He displays clear leadership, has experience of development work at the university level from the Board of Education, and he understands the importance of getting the whole organisation to commit. These are experiences we believe will be important in his new role as deputy vice-chancellor”, explains Rolf Brennerfelt.

Pär earned his doctorate in animal ecology from Uppsala University in 1992 and was appointed docent in wildlife ecology at SLU’s Faculty of Forest Sciences in 1996. In 2021, he was appointed professor of ecology at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Today, he is deputy dean at the faculty as well as vice chair of the faculty board. Pär is also chair of the programme board for education in natural resources and agriculture.

“I feel grateful and humbled to take on this new task. I hope to be able to contribute to improving SLU beyond the faculty level. I’m also looking forward to developing the deputy vice-chancellor’s role and duties”, explains Professor Pär Forslund.

Karin Holmgren, our current deputy vice-chancellor, will leave her post at the end of the year.
