The Global Challenges University Alliance (GCUA 2030) is proud to announce the GCUA 2030 Thesis of the Year 2019. The award is established to encourage high quality research of relevance for sustainable global development.

GCUA 2030 is a network of university partners from across the globe, representing different disciplines and with a key objective to equip the next generation of researchers, teachers and academic leaders with knowledge, tools and networks that will strengthen their capacity to work across disciplines and conduct translational research.

The prize sum is 5000 EUR and the winner will be given the opportunity to present the research in a GCUA 2030 webinar during 2021.

Eligible candidates have defended their PhD thesis in 2019 at one of the GCUA 2030 member universities

Each member can nominate up to three candidates for the prize. Send your nominations to the GCUA 2030 contact person at your university with i) an abstract of the thesis in English (max 400 words) and a motivation of how the research contributes to sustainable development including potential for impact (250 words), ii) a short bio (250 words) and iii) a video presentation in English (max two minutes) summarizing the thesis in a popular scientific way focusing on how the research contributes to sustainable global development.

Deadline for submission of nominations is 31 October 2020. An expert panel will choose three candidates to represent each university in the next stage of the competition where you compete with PhD students from the other GCUA 2030 member universities.

The final winner of the GCUA 2030 Thesis of the Year 2019 will be selected by an international expert panel and announced later during 2020.
