New research project about antimicrobial resistance in aquatic environments
Foon Yin Lai has received a starting grant from the Swedish Research Council, for a project about the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in aquatic environments
Foon Yin Lai, Associate Senior Lecturer at the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment and recently appointed docent, has been given a starting grant of SEK 3,766,000 from the Swedish Research Council for a four-year project. The goal of the project is to better understand how transformation products of antimicrobial chemicals affect the aquatic resistome (profiles and abundance of antibiotic resistance genes).
Foon Yin Lai’s research interests include, besides antibiotic resistance genes, detection various emerging contaminants (e.g. illicit drugs and other organic hazardous chemicals) in wastewater, as well as the effects of the contaminants on the environment and on human health.
