News from Head of Department, week 2

Published: 13 January 2020

The first Friday letter of the decade!

I hope you all had an equally wonderful Christmas and New Year's holiday as I did! Welcome back! However, the leave ended in a somewhat unexpected and sad way on Monday night when Elinora texted me that she had broken her leg. She has now had surgery and is under recovery, but we can probably expect her to stay a little calmer than we are used to for a while.

On Tuesday-Wednesday next week there will be full activity at KV when the veterinarians' ex-jobs are to be reported. It is fun to read the titles of all interesting works that will be reported and satisfactory to note that such a large part of the work has been done at KV. Good job this year too!

The dean has called the faculty board and prefects to the workshop Wednesday-Thursday, so I will be in another place and focus on the faculty's strategy work.

A pleasing news from the turn of the year is that the national library consortium BIBSAM together with universities and colleges in Sweden have signed different types of agreements that give you as authors free OA publication at no extra cost. During week 3 I am on site all day (but quite limited
Wednesday-Thursday).

Have a nice weekend
Nils

Below are the week's collected information points:

• The Research Secretary reports on two ERA-NET calls, of which the first concerns the development and adaptation of digital technology for precision farming and the second call for infectious diseases focusing on epidemics & emerging diseases, vaccines and field detection. (see Appendix)

• The Research Secretary also wants to disseminate an announcement calendar for 2020 so it is well worth taking part! (see Appendix)
