RUFORUM representative awarded Honorary Doctorate

SLU warmly congratulates Professor Adipala Ekwamu, Executive Secretary of the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), on the occasion of being awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Gezira in Sudan.

The motivation for this honor states that Prof Adipala was recognised for his outstanding scientific achievements as a university professor, his strong belief in Africa driving its agenda and in higher education being key to the development in Africa. The Gerzia University Senate also expressed appreciation for Prof. Adipala’s leadership to the RUFORUM Network and his continuous and unlimited support to the member universities in general and to Sudanese universities in particular.

Facts:

RUFORUM is a consortium of 60 universities in 25 African countries established in 2004. The mission is to strengthen capacities of universities to foster innovations responsive to demands of smallholder farmers through the training of high quality researchers, the output of impact-oriented research and the maintenance of collaborative working relations among researchers, farmers, national agricultural research institutions and governments.

SLU and RUFORUM have been allied in improving higher education in Africa within tertiary agriculture education since 2011. SLU och Ruforum har ett MoU (memorandum of understanding) since 2016.
