News from Head of Department, v 49

Published: 09 December 2019

Have a nice weekend! The countdown to the Christmas holidays has begun and already next Friday we celebrate Lucia! You are all welcome on level 5 for some morning coffee and a bun at 8:45 the 13th!

I would like to highlight three impressive individual achievements from the week that has passed: Ulrika Hermansson and Elin Manell have passed their exams and are now Diplomates in ECAR and ECLAM, respectively. Jean-Baptiste Ndahetuye defended his thesis in a brilliant way yesterday. Congratulations to all three of you!

On Wednesday, it was the prefect council and dealt with, among other things, the following points:

• Administrative procedures of postgraduate education

• Bengt Guss presented the Nagoya Protocol - handling samples etc. from other countries. If you bring home research samples from other countries, this is important info! https://www.naturvardsverket.se/Miljoarbete-i-samhallet/Miljoarbete-i-Sverige/Uppdelat-efter-omrade/Nagoyaprotokollet/

• Åsa Formo, new fundraising manager at VH, who I will invite to a KV info

• The research secretaries talked about research funding and a hope for more submitted research applications. I will also invite the research secretaries to a forthcoming KV info.

The following information points from the week:

• All subject managers have been asked to make an inventory of interference-sensitive equipment before there may be a tramway on campus.

Information from the research secretaries on, for example, three international calls from FORMAS on food systems, animal-human health and food systems and climate change in December, the Swedish Research Council's research agenda on antibiotic resistance and the possibility of seeking smaller scholarships from the animal friends' association in Stockholm, and more.
Furthermore, the Research Secretaries have announced that at Forma's latest Research Council meeting, it was decided to change the rules for the Annual Open Call. There will be 4 year projects and 4 million in the future.

Next week I will be in place Monday to Friday.

Now is the time to go home and I wish you all a nice weekend!

VH!

Nils
