Uppsala University will no longer co-fund CBM

Published: 12 December 2018

The Swedish Biodiversity Centre (CBM) was established by the government in 1995 following an initiative by both SLU and Uppsala University. Its purpose was to contribute to Sweden’s work to meet the requirements in the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Since its creation in 1995 and until 31 December 2018, both SLU and Uppsala University have been responsible for the centre. As of 1 January 2019, Uppsala University will no longer take part of organised CBM collaboration.

The NJ Faculty’s management and CBM are now having constructive and progress discussions on the possibilities and consequences brought on by this change. Biodiversity is still an important societal issue in Sweden and the world, and CBM has great potential to continue being an important force within this field.

On 6 December, the NJ faculty board decided that the faculty will cover any deficits in 2019 caused by Uppsala University’s departure. Furthermore, the board also decided that new employments in 2019 will take place in consultation with the dean.
