Published: 16 January 2018

SLU has been given the honourable task of welcoming the President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and the First Lady of Iceland Eliza Jean Reid as part of their visit to Sweden on 17-19 January.

They will visit SLU on Friday, January 19 together with Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden and a delegation including Iceland´s Minister of Foreign Affairs Guðlaugur Þor Þórðarson and representatives of Icelandic companies and organisations. The delegation visiting SLU also includes Secretary of State Elisabeth Backteman.

Vice-Chancellor Peter Högberg will host the visit. SLU will be representing the thematic area sustainability, one of three areas in focus for the Icelandic state visit to Sweden.

Two SLU presentations will be given:

Dr Annsofie Wahlström, Director SLU Future Food and Research Group Leader at the Department of Urban and Rural Development, will talk about Sustainable Food Choices: How we, as consumers of food, can make sustainable choices regarding our food. Sustainability includes in this case economic, ecological and social aspects. Sustainability is also about human health.

Professor Anna Jansson, Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, and also Professor in Equine Science at Holar University College, Iceland, will talk about animal welfare in regard to Icelandic horses, with focus on research done in collaboration with Holar University College on the physiological response by Icelandic horses to adult riders.

The visit takes place in Audhumbla at 09.30-10.20. We kindly ask all staff and students in VHC to cooperate and show understanding for the fact that some group and copying facility rooms at the entrance level will be closed during the 50-minute visit. In addition, we request that everyone help keep the main entrance to the VHC free for guests entering at 09:30 and leaving at 10:15.

Apart from that, we would like to see operations continue as normal, to show our guests what a living and dynamic university we are.
