Welcome to this seminar at SLU Alnarp campus and online by Dr. Abdou Tenkouano. As Director General of icipe, Dr. Tenkouano will share perspectives from icipe’s research and partnerships highlighting how applied science can contribute to practical solutions, linking insect science to sustainable agriculture, food systems, and education.
Speaker: Dr. Abdou Tenkouano, Director General of icipe
Dr Abdou Tenkouano has over 40 years of experience in agricultural research and development and is widely recognised for advancing innovation in the sector. He was appointed to the Steering Committee of the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (2023) and the Council of the World Agriculture Forum (2024), and has received the CGIAR Science Partnerships Award.
He holds a PhD in Genetics and an MSc in Plant Breeding from Texas A&M University and an agronomy engineering degree from the University of Ouagadougou. His work spans genetics, breeding, biotechnology, pathology, agronomy, and postharvest strategies across key crops including sorghum, millet, maize, cassava, yam, banana, and plantain.
Dr Tenkouano served as Executive Director of CORAF/WECARD (2016–2023) and previously held senior leadership roles with the World Vegetable Center, IITA, and ICRISAT. He is an active contributor to regional and global research-for-development initiatives and has published extensively while serving on multiple scientific committees and academic platforms.
