Forest historian Anna Stjernström lectures in Umeå

Portrait. Photo

Anna Stjernström visits the SLU library in Umeå with a lecture on the trade in felling permissions during the 19th century.

From the historical perspective of the forest industry's supply of raw materials and based on the ”Timmeravverkningstiden, skapande förstörelse i en jämtländsk socken ca 1850-1906”, Dr. Anna Stjernström talks about how a new way of using the forest after 1850 transformed the northern Swedish countryside. How did an innovative forest trade contribute to the creation of the modern industrial society and what were the consequences of coordinating existing resources such as timber and water in new ways?
