Dear colleagues of the faculty, It is now almost a year since I took up the position as Dean of the faculty. It has been a very interesting year – not least because I have had the opportunity to meet many inspiring people whom I might not otherwise have met.
A tremendous amount of fascinating research is carried out here. And it is not only me who thinks so: our funders provide us with generous support, clients commission substantial bodies of knowledge from us, and other universities want to collaborate with us.
We also have an excellent working relationship with the student organisations, whose contributions help our boards carry out their work so well. Much is going extremely well – a clear sign that we are working towards the same goals. We are around 1,400 people in the faculty, and everyone contributes to making the whole greater.
In 2026, we will begin our strategic work based on the strategy that the SLU Board will decide on at the end of this year. It will be exciting to plan this work together and to continue developing our activities. The most important area for improvement is attracting more students to our programmes. SLU has programmes that recruit very well – so my conclusion is that we do reach out. But what we offer is not attracting enough applicants, and some programmes are more difficult to describe clearly. This is something we need to analyse together and address during 2026.
I would like to thank you all for your outstanding work during 2025. I wish you joy and a well-deserved, restful break over the holidays. See you in 2026!
Noél Holmgren
