FAQ about the new intranet

Last changed: 29 June 2026

Welcome to the first version of the FAQ about the new intranet. We will continue to add more questions and answers throughout the autumn and up to the launch.

Questions

If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact your local web editor or the Web Editorial Team. For more information, see Who can I contact if I have more questions?

Why are we replacing our current staff web with an intranet?

The current Episerver platform is outdated and needs to be replaced. At the same time, we are improving security. The new intranet will therefore require you to sign in, which means that only SLU employees will have access to it. When you sign in to your SLU computer, you will automatically be signed in to the intranet.

As we are building a new intranet from the ground up, we are reviewing the organisation's needs and designing the intranet accordingly. We are also removing content that is outdated or no longer meets the required quality standards.

What's new in the new intranet?

When the new intranet is launched, you will notice several changes. Here are some of the most important:

Personalised and role-based content. Content is tailored to your role, where you work within the organisation, and the Location you belong to. You can read more under What does it mean that the intranet is personalised and role-based?

Secure sign-in. The intranet will require you to sign in. This means, among other things, that you will automatically be signed in to the intranet when you sign in to your SLU computer. The same applies to most of the tools and systems you access through the intranet. You can read more under What does it mean that the intranet requires you to sign in?

Easier to find information. The new intranet offers several ways to find information, including improved navigation, filtering and a personalised start page.

Over many years, the structure and navigation of the current staff web have become unclear and, in some cases, illogical. We have therefore carried out a thorough review of the structure and rebuilt the intranet to make it more consistent and easier to navigate.

The new intranet also includes search filters for topic and content type, so you do not need to know exactly where information is located to find what you are looking for.

As part of the move to the new intranet, we are also reviewing content together with the University administration to reduce duplicate content and avoid the same information being published in multiple places.

Your personalised start page is tailored to where you work within the organisation, the location you belong to and your role. You can read more under How does the personalised start page work?

Favourite pages. In version two, which will be released after the initial launch, you will be able to mark pages as favourites. Your favourite pages will then be available directly from the main menu.

What does it mean that the intranet requires you to sign in?

The entire intranet will require you to sign in and will only be available to SLU employees. This means that the content will not be visible to anyone outside the university. It also means that intranet pages cannot be found through external search engines such as Google.

What does it mean that the intranet is personalised and role-based?

In practice, this means two things:

  1. Your start page is tailored to you. The content on your start page is tailored to where you work within the organisation, the location you belong to and, for some staff groups, your role. This means that the news, events and other information you see first are those considered most relevant to you. If you prefer, you can choose to view all content without personalisation (filtering).
  2. Information can be tailored to your role and organisational affiliation. Pages on the intranet can include information that is specifically relevant to you. For example, this could be department-specific procedures for staff development review or templates and guidance for managers.

How does the personalised start page work?

Your start page gives you access to all the content on the intranet. At the same time, it acts as a showcase for the information that is most relevant to you as an employee. It displays content, news and calendar events tailored to your organisational affiliation, location and role.

Will the search function work better than it does today?

The quality of the search function depends largely on the quality of the content it searches. Because the current staff web has been in use for many years, it now contains some duplicate, outdated and, in some cases, contradictory information.

As part of the move to the new intranet, our aim is not to transfer outdated or incorrect information. This will result in more relevant and reliable content, giving the search function a better basis for delivering accurate search results.

In addition, the Web Editorial Team will take a more structured and proactive approach to managing the search function. This will be possible because the content on the new intranet will be up to date and accurate.

What about the staff directory?

A new staff directory will be introduced in version 2. Until then, the current staff directory will continue to be available.

When will the intranet be launched?

The new intranet is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2027. A second version with additional functionality will be released shortly afterwards.

What do I need to do before the launch?

Information about how to access the intranet will be provided closer to the launch. Until then, please keep an eye out for updates from the web project. When you have the opportunity to preview the new intranet, we encourage you to take a look.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?

If you have any further questions, please contact your web editor, who receives regular updates from the web project. If your web editor is unable to answer your question, they can always refer you to the web project team. The easiest way to contact us is by emailing webbredaktionen@slu.se.
