About The Unit for Data Management Guidance and Development

Last changed: 01 April 2026

The Unit for Data Management Guidance and Development acts as a data management advisor to SLU’s environmental monitoring and assessment. We combine expertise in open data and data management.

We provide individuals, projects and departments with advice and support on data accessibility, storage, metadata and metadata standards, among other things.

We work alongside other support functions at SLU and are part of the joint support function for data management in research and EMA at SLU.

We have a good understanding of the needs of EMA projects and programmes, and can facilitate contacts regarding, for example, the technical solutions used in data management at SLU.

Support

We answer questions from individual staff members, projects and departments on all matters relating to data management. Please email us at miljodatastod@slu.se with your questions and thoughts!

Webinars, workshops and presentations

We organise and take part in workshops, and present information on data management at project and departmental meetings. Please contact us (miljodatastod@slu.se) for further information.

We also organise webinars to support staff working with data management within SLU’s environmental monitoring and assessment. Read more about upcoming and past webinars here:

A systematic approach to quality in data management

The Environmental Data Support Unit is tasked with ensuring that those involved in SLU's environmental monitoring achieve good quality in their data management. This is achieved by:

  • a policy document entitled ‘Basic requirements for data management in environmental monitoring and assessment’ (referred to as the environmental data management guide for short)
  • advice on how projects and organisations can assess their current data management practices and plan and implement improvements.
  • monitoring of how projects’ data management practices develop over time and helping them meet the basic requirements for good data management.
