Many of us are already using AI tools in our work. Within the University administration, we are now developing a comprehensive strategy for generative AI at SLU, with clear guidelines and training.
We are therefore introducing Microsoft Copilot Chat as a tool for general work tasks. More advanced solutions and other forms of AI place higher demands on information security and take longer to implement.
As an SLU employee, you have access to Microsoft Copilot Chat. It is an AI assistant that can help you draft texts, summarise, translate and brainstorm ideas.
Copilot Chat only sees what you type or upload yourself. It does not read your email or files on its own. It has access to the web and can perform searches there. Copilot Chat is based on OpenAI’s GPT models, the same model family as ChatGPT. The models you can choose from change over time.
To log in and use the service, go to: https://copilot.cloud.microsoft/
Copilot Chat is a cloud service. According to SLU’s rules on cloud services, classified information and sensitive personal data must not, generally, be handled in cloud services. This also applies to AI services. Avoid using other AI services and personal accounts at work. SLU has no control over where the information ends up in those cases.

Always review the answers. AI can provide answers that sound correct but are incorrect. You are responsible for what you use in your work. Also, do not use AI to make decisions, such as grading exams or screening application materials.
For the time being, Copilot Chat is the AI service that SLU offers to all staff. It is sufficient for many day-to-day tasks. At the same time, work is underway to develop more agreed and integrated solutions for AI support at SLU, based on the organisation’s needs and requirements.
Making lots of small purchases of different services makes it harder to protect information and keep track of costs. The purchase of AI services is subject to SLU’s rules on IT procurement.
Alongside this, we are working on developing guidelines and training programmes relating to AI. Further information will be available at the end of November.
