The faculty board began its meeting with a joint session with the VH Faculty Board. The two boards discussed several matters of common interest, including which categories of staff should be eligible to stand for election and entitled to vote in elections to faculty board and the SLU Board.
Recruitment matters
Based on the roadmap for the research area of food science, the faculty board decided to initiate the recruitment of a senior lecturer in food science and food technology. The board also appointed external experts to assess the candidates.
Strategic investments
The board approved funding for an internationalisation initiative, which is managed by the Committee for Global Development. The board also approved an investment in research infrastructure amounting to SEK 2 million per year for the period 2026–2035. The dean will decide which research infrastructures will receive funding.
Principles for the allocation of funding
As it does every October, the faculty board approved the principles for allocating funding for the coming year. The dean will subsequently decide on the amounts and details of the allocation, in accordance with the principles established by the faculty board and the funding allocated to the faculty by the SLU Board.
Recruitment committee for the appointment of a vice-chancellor and deputy vice-chancellor
The current vice-chancellor's term of office ends on 30 June 2028, and the SLU Board has therefore decided on the procedure for preparing proposals for the appointment of a vice-chancellor and deputy vice-chancellor. This includes establishing a recruitment committee consisting of twelve members, including one representative from each faculty. Following a discussion of potential candidates, the faculty board decided to task the dean with appointing a member and a personal deputy to the SLU Board's recruitment committee.
Eligibility to stand for election and voting rights in elections to faculty boards and the SLU Board
Ahead of next year's elections to the faculty boards, the SLU Board has asked the faculty boards for their views on which categories of staff should be eligible to stand for election, and which should be entitled to vote.
The faculty board adopted a statement proposing that postdoctoral researchers should not be eligible to stand for election, as their employment at SLU is normally relatively short-term. The board also wishes to retain the current rules on voting rights. This would mean that postdoctoral researchers would retain their right to vote but would not be eligible to stand for election.
Upcoming board meeting
The next faculty board meeting will take place on 10 December.
