Preparations for Tree Relocation: Trial Pits Excavated

The tramway construction project is moving steadily closer to Ultuna. In the second half of September, oaks along Ulls väg will be carefully excavated and relocated. As part of the preparations, test pits have been opened at several sites across the campus.
In total, 13 pits have been excavated to assess soil composition and drainage capacity. These have now been securely covered.
According to Johan Lindersson, Project Manager at SLU, a start-up meeting with the appointed contractor VEAB will take place on 19 August.
“We expect to begin the tree relocation during the latter part of September. The work will be carried out by an experienced contractor, and every effort will be made to minimise disruption for road and sidewalk users,” says Lindersson.
The relocated trees will be provided with new planting sites across the campus. Twelve of the oaks will also form part of a research project.
