Important for those who use a Mac computer

Published: 04 November 2025

Your Mac should always run the latest version it is compatible with, so that we can ensure high security and compatibility within our systems.

To ensure high security and compatibility within our systems, all Mac computers on SLU’s network must run a supported version of macOS. Your Mac should always run the latest version it is compatible with, but the minimum requirement as of now is macOS 14 (Sonoma).

Important information regarding macOS updates

  • If you have an older version than macOS 14, we ask that you upgrade as soon as possible. This way you can perform the update when it fits your schedule.
  • If your computer cannot be upgraded to macOS 14, it means it is too old, and you will need to replace it with a newer model.
  • If your computer can run macOS 14 but not any newer version, it will be considered too old within a year, and you should plan to replace it with a newer model.

How do I check which version I have today?

Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner and select "About This Mac".

How do I know if my computer is compatible with the required version of macOS?

In the same place where you check which version of macOS you’re running, you will also see your Mac model. You can then check Apple’s compatibility lists, linked below:
