In October, World Food Prize Foundation hosts the annual event World Food Prize to emphasise a person who has improved food safety globally. A part of this annual event is Global Youth Institute, an international programme for high school students who have been selected after participating in national Youth Institutes in their home countries. Five Swedish students represented SLU Youth Institute this year.
This year's laureate of the World Food Prize is Cynthia Rosenzweig, senior research scientist and head of the Climate Impacts Group at NASA GISS.
Five students from schools in Skåne, Uppsala, Linköping and Sollefteå participated in the side event at World Food Prize, Global Youth Institute. The Swedish students presented their challenges and solutions to other students and experts from different parts of the world and received concrete feedback on their essays. All the students impressed greatly and received fine criticism from the experts.
Two of the participants, Tiba and Minna, have commented on their participation in Global Youth Institute and are very satisfied with the event.
I found the Global Youth Institute to be an incredibly good chance to get to know students from other parts of the world with an admirable motivation and drive to help the world. It was also fantastic to listen to all the inspiring lectures where you learned things you didn't know you could do! - Tiba
As for the roundtable, I have to say that it was incredibly cool to have my solutions confirmed by an expert with experience in conditions similar to those in Sierra Leone. I now take with me new lessons, but also many food for thoughts from both the other presentations and the words from the experts. It was a rewarding and above all important conversation that I hope more people get the opportunity to be a part of. - Minna
We thank our five SLU Youth Institute alumni and wish you all the best of luck in the future!
