Call for internationalisation in the field of animal or plant breeding

The SLU Breeding Network is launching a call for internationalisation for researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in the field of animal or plant breeding. The call aims to support international contacts with researchers in the field of animal or plant breeding at SLU.

Who can apply?

PhD students, postdocs and other researchers working within plant or animal breeding at SLU, who are employed, on a scholarship or admitted at SLU during the time of the event applied for in the call. The supervisor or work leader must agree.

What can be applied for?

The SLU Breeding Network has a total amount of 300 000 SEK allocated to this call. A maximum of 50 000 SEK per person can be applied for to cover costs for traveling, accommodation and fees (if applicable). Costs for subsistence (“traktamente”) are not included in this call. Each person can apply once for this call.

The applications will be prioritized according to the following list:

  1. Invitation of international (incoming) researchers/teachers in the field of animal or plant breeding (a letter of invitation by a SLU researcher should be included)
  2. Attendance of international events (congress, conference, symposium…) in the field of animal or plant breeding. Priority is given to those who have an oral presentation followed by those presenting a poster.
  3. Attendance of an international course/workshop outside Sweden in the field of animal or plant breeding.

Application procedure

The application must contain:

  • The applicants name and workplace (department & faculty at SLU), as well as the supervisors/work leaders name and workplace (if applicable)
  • Short description of the researchers work and why the guest researcher should be invited or why the conference or course is relevant to attend in a breeding work context (max. 1 A4-page Times New Roman 12 point, single line spacing, 2 cm margins)
  • Letter of approval from the supervisor (PhD students) or work leader (postdocs)
  • Information on the guest researcher (length of stay, approximated costs for traveling and accommodation), conference (date, fee, form of presentation, approximated costs for traveling and accommodation), or course (date, fee, credits, approximated costs for traveling and accommodation)

The application must be submitted together with a CV of at most two pages. The application form should be signed with EduSign and sent as a single pdf-file to: Katja Fedrowitz (katja.fedrowitz@slu.se).

The applications will be approved by the committee of the SLU Breeding Network in February 2023, following the recommendations from a scientific evaluation committee of professors (emeritus) in the four faculties at SLU. Last day to send in an application is the 21st  of December 2022. If the application is approved, the applicant will get a written approval stating that the SLU Breeding Network guarantees a grant up to a certain amount. Allowed funds must be used before 31 December 2023. Only actual costs up to the approved sum are reimbursed.

A travel report should be sent to the coordinator of the SLU Breeding Network no later than two months after travel completion in order to receive the funds. The travel report form should be filled in, including a description of the most important parts of the trip, their costs and how well the purpose of the grant has been achieved. All costs including deviations from the original proposal should be reported together with a signature from the department accountant. The travel report form will be sent out along with the decision letter.
