News from VH's faculty board

VH's faculty board had a meeting on 15 September. Here are some of the covered topics and decisions taken.
The extension of animal education
Planning for the extension of veterinary and veterinary programs continues. The Vice-Chancellor discusses with the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation about the details that still remain to be resolved. The project is now being formed and steering-, project- and reference groups are being staffed.

Recruitments
The Faculty Board decided to start recruiting a professor in laboratory animal medicine, provided that the Vice-Chancellor approves the recruitment. The head of Department of Clinical Sciences will come up with a proposal for an employment profile.
The committee further decided to employ Marie Sjölund as an co-opt senior lecturer in pig medicine at 10 percent starting on 1 October this year and until September 2023 at the latest.
Questionnaire about missed practical steps
At the end of the semester this spring, SLU's Joint Committee of Student Unions of SLU – Sluss sent a questionnaire to all students regarding the consequences of the pandemic, focusing on the experience of missed practical steps in the education and the harm that this caused. Nearly 1,000 students responded. Of them, just over 80 per cent, felt that they had missed practical steps. Of these, approximately 60 per cent were interested in taking up these missed steps in some way, mainly as a part in coming courses (≈ 47 per cent) or as voluntary education during the semester but not in regular courses (≈ 54 per cent).
Just over 60 per cent considered that they had missed important contacts because the students could not visit organizations or companies. Just under half of the respondents thought that they would not be perceived as less interesting in the job market as a result of the pandemic, while about 30 per cent were insecure and about 21 per cent thought that they had suffered harm.
