SLU’s new vehicle guidelines – a step towards a fossil-independent vehicle fleet

Published: 26 June 2018

On 19 June, the vice-chancellor decided to adopt guidelines for the possession of motorised vehicles, machines and tools at SLU (SLU ua 2018.1.1.1-2278).

You will find a link to the guidelines (in Swedish) further down on this page.

The purpose of the guidelines is to make it easier for SLU operations to select the type of motorised vehicle, machine, tool and fossil-free fuel they want. At the same time, they must ensure that the vehicles in question are safe, good from a work environment perspective, cost effective and that they have the least possible effect on the environment.

During autumn 2017, the vice-chancellor decided that all motorised vehicles, machines and tools must run on fossil-free fuel by 2027 at the latest (SLU ua 2017.1.1.3-3874). This objective is one of six focus areas to reach SLU's vision to becoming a climate neutral university. The joint guidelines for vehicle possession at SLU will help to meet the established environmental objectives.

The guidelines concern anyone who uses, purchases and/or rents motorised vehicles, machines and tools at work. The guidelines are compulsory except for cases where they clearly state that exceptions are allowed. A head of department, head of division or equivalent must be able to motivate their possessions, and possible leasing or purchasing alternatives must always be investigated. Consideration must always be given to life cycle and life cost perspectives.
