Christmas greetings from the Vice-Chancellor

Our 40th year as a university, the celebration year 2017, is coming to an end. It has been a year filled with extraordinary activities, in addition to the ever-present teaching and research.
At many SLU sites, open door days or similar events have been organised, offering the public – and hopefully some potential future students – an insight into everything our university has to offer.
We have started launching our 'future' platforms: animals, nature and health; food; forests; urban environments. And in a few years, we will also be launching R/V Svea, our new research vessel which will have her home port in Lysekil.
SLU continues to do well in international university rankings, not least in the field of life science.
SLU is perceived as, and should be, a university for students who will contribute to finding solutions to current and future problems related to the environment, food supply and food quality, and a sustainable world.
These sound like grand objectives – and they are. But why aim for less? In the end, it is up to us to reach these objectives, through our work.
But life is not all about work; it should also be about rest and relaxation. That is why we hope you all, staff and students, will find the time over the holidays to see friends and family, to rest and relax, to exercise and enjoy the fresh air, and last but not least, to reflect.
