VH-faculty dean letter - Lena Lidfors

Published: 09 August 2016

The summer holiday is getting towards its end for some of us while others have another one or two weeks left. Our campus areas are still quite awaiting the students that will arrive in three weeks’ time. My mission within the VH-Faculty during 2016-2019 is to be vice dean responsible for doctoral education (20%) and equal opportunities (10%).

Lena Lidfors, Professor at the Department of Animal Environment and Health is vice dean at the Faculty of veterinary medicin and animal sciences, responsible for doctoral education and equal opportunities.
One of the missions deals with leading the meetings of the Doctoral Education Board (FUN) once per month (except in July) and to coordinate different questions regarding the doctoral education at the faculty and how it is connected to the overall guidelines in doctoral education of SLU.

FUN accepts students to licentiate- and PhD educations, accepts applications for defences of licentiate and PhD theses, accepts PhD courses and work with long term strategic questions within the doctoral education of the faculty. We have, for example, started to discuss a review of which information is sent to the opponent and members of the evaluation committee and if the quality of our PhD theses would increase by previewing.

We have a new study rector for doctoral education from the 1st of July in Jan Hultgren who replaces Maria Neil. The 15th of August we get a new faculty administrator to FUN whose name is Fredrik Granberg and he replaces Sara Ringmark. If you have any questions regarding the doctoral education you are always welcome to contact them or me. On this web page you will find more information about guidelines within the doctoral education, application forms, etc.

The second mission deals with leading meetings that the Equal Opportunities Committee have four times per year, to catch up and try to solve any problems with equal opportunities for both our students and our employees, and to be a part of SLU:s overall equal opportunities work.

After our seminar in January about how it is to have a foreign background when starting to work at SLU we have, thanks to an initiative by Ylva Sjunnesson, decided to run a course in the Swedish language at VHC every Thursday directly after work.

After an initiative from the students we have decided to move the painting by Acke Åslund which is hanging outside the students´ lunch room to the Veterinary Museum in Skara. The 15th of December the Equal Opportunities Committee is responsible for the VH-Faculty Christmas party, which we hope everyone will attend.

If you experience problems with any question related to the equal opportunities area at our faculty I hope you will contact me, Bercem Johannesson at the Faculty Office, Maja Malmberg or Theodoros Ntallaris in the Equal Opportunities Committee or your Department contact person, see the web page for more information.

Lena Lidfors,
Vice dean for doctoral education and equal opportunities
