Fishing restrictions in Swedish lakes

Published: 15 July 2016

Researchers at the Department of Aquatic Resources at SLU recently discovered that around half of the 205 greatest lakes in Sweden had areas with fishing restrictions. Most of these areas were protected against fishing on trout and the areas were relatively small (1,6 % of the total lake area).

The researchers conclude that protected areas is an important tool for fishery management that it can be developed to protect weak fish stocks.
