New rules will help combat discrimination

Published: 21 September 2016

The Equal Opportunities Committee wishes to report that the Riksdag, on 21 June this year, voted for legislative changes concerning discrimination in workplaces and schools.

The parliamentary decision means that employers and education providers must prevent discrimination associated with gender, gender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation and age.

The Equality Ombudsman welcomes the new rules of the Discrimination Act which stipulate that employers and schools must work with prevention and promotion to counter discrimination associated with all grounds of discrimination in the Act.

The Equality Ombudsman has sent out a press release regarding the decision, which you can read here (in Swedish only).
