Natalie von der Lehr

Communication Officer at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics

Presentation

Natalie von der Lehr works as a communication officer at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics since February 2019. She works 50 percent and splits her time between internal communication of the recently started project Gigacow and external communication of the department.

Background

After almost ten years within the world of science as a PhD student and postdoc I decided to drop the pipette and grab a pen instead. Why? I simply had discovered that I enjoyed communicating science much more than doing the actual experiments. I retrained to become a science journalist by enrolling in a Masters program in journalism at Uppsala University 2009 and started freelancing in 2010. Ever since I have turned complex scientific findings into understandable news articles, features and podcasts.

Besides my current work at the department I am continuing with my freelance work. I am writing about research politics for Curie, a Swedish web magazine devoted to the world of research. I have also started RadioScience, a podcast about science, together with my freelance colleague Lisa Beste. Additionally, I am proud to be a coach of a group of Phd students and postdocs who blog for the Karolinska Institutet Career Blog.
