Exploring perspectives on food preparedness and sustainability in agriculture

Presentation

Food should be safe, healthy, high quality, sustainably produced with benefits for the environment, ideally also supporting the economy for the producers, nation and local community, not be too expensive and available also in times of crises. How can we make it possible?

I have seen all these perspectives find their way into policy development and I want to explore them in order to find solutions for more sustainable food systems. At SLU I study the role of Swedish agriculture in ensuring food availability in times of crisis.

Teaching

I teach at the course Prospects and Challenges for Sustainable Food Systems (LV0103)

Research

My research is within the project ”Towards sustainable preparedness in Swedish Agriculture”

I also participate in a collaborative scoping review to identify and quantify health impacts of various diets defined as sustainable in the literature: Defining sustainable diets and their health impacts around the globe: A scoping review

Background

I have a MSc in Human nutrition from Stockholm University (2006) and a PhD in International Health from Uppsala University (2011): Infant Anemia and Micronutrient Status : Studies of Early Determinants in Rural Bangladesh

I have since then worked at the Swedish Food Agency, evaluating scientific literature as basis for policy on healthy and sustainable food consumption. I also represented Sweden in the committee for the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023.

In 2023 I graduated from the Masters programme in sustainable food systems at SLU.
