Symposium: Usages of new biomass in a changing world and impact on biodiversity

internal events | meetings | seminars, workshops |

Global change and human resource uses put pressure on both biomass production and biodiversity. New production systems and management is required to adapt to new condition and restore biodiversity. This mini-symposia will address how such changes are possible in a changing world.

Program

13:00-13:15: Welcome and Introduction, Örjan Östman (Associated Professor, Department of Aquatic Resources, SLU).

13:15-14:00: Possible impacts on water quality and biodiversity of a developing Nordic bio-economy: a scenario study, Jan Vermaat (Professor in Aquatic Ecology at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management of NMBU).

14:00-14:45: Utilizing forage crops more resistant to extreme weathers and an overall warmer climate, Karl-Heinz Südekum (Professor of Animal Nutrition, University of Bonn).

14:45-15:15: Coffee break (coffee/tea and a bun).

15:15-16:00: The potential of perennial dual-use crops to contribute to sustainable biomass production, Valentin Picasso (Professor at the Department of Crop Production Ecology, SLU).

Please register by 18 August. The event will be held in English.

All speakers will participate during the PhD-defence of Will Ashworth “Harvesting reed (Phragmites australis): Possibilities, challenges, and considerations for coastal ecosystems and feed production” on Fri 21 Aug at 9:00 am in Lennart Kennes sal.
